To the Oriel Q Membership and Friends
Happy New Year
The current steering committee are now reviewing how Oriel Q Gallery effectively operates in the coming year and scheduling programmes for 2026.
Oriel Q Gallery is the only contemporary art gallery in Narberth and has enjoyed many years of showcasing and selling contemporary art by local artists for the people of Narbeth and surrounding area and for visitors from the wider Uk and abroad. The Gallery also holds regular art workshops and classes and a range of social events for its membership and those wishing to be creative.
This has all been achieved through the leadership of a very small number of people. Harriet Addyman has been the key driving force for the Gallery over the past years, devoting much of her time to making sure the Gallery operates and provides opportunities for its members.
For Harriet this is unsustainable. The pressures of work and increasing demands means that Harriet will be taking a step back from February 2026.
What does this mean for Oriel Q Gallery?
A good question!
In order for Oriel Q Gallery to continue to run effectively responsibilities will need to be shared between a wider steering committee from the current membership and friends.
Yes, we are asking YOU for your help and support.
Without YOUR support the Gallery cannot remain open and will unfortunately have to close in 2026.
We need to ask members if they are willing to be part of a wider steering committee and are able to offer some time to help with the following;
Help with curating and hanging exhibitions
This will involve liaising with artists regarding hanging, arranging delivery of work, arranging hanging and breaking exhibitions with exhibiting artists.
Help with Membership
We need someone who will keep records of our current members and add new members when they join. To send out a reminder for annual subscriptions once a year though a group membership email. Be the main contact for new membership enquiries.
Help with Finance
We need someone who will be able to keep accounts of income and expenditure through-out the year. Pay artists for sales of work and keep a record of all sales.
We are seeking Community Interest Company status ( CIC ) and will employ an accountant to submit the end of year accounts (so this will be taken care of).
Help with coordinating the stewarding of exhibitions
We need someone who will coordinate the stewarding of exhibitions. This simply is to monitor an online stewarding sign-up sheet for artists and to ensure that all exhibiting artists share stewarding when showing group exhibitions.
Help with taking minutes of steering group meetings
To take minutes, type them up and mail them to the membership. Many steering group meetings occur online.
Help with workshop and classes coordination
This will be liaising with the workshop leader, register of attendees and working with finance to manage payments.
Help with Advertising / Social Media / Email
Posting on Facebook, Instagram etc. Writiing Emails and sending to our supporters.
Harriet will not take part in operational aspects of Oriel Q Gallery.
Ray Burnell will continue to manage the Gallery website
David Finch will manage the Companies House registration and compile the end of year company report to accompany the end of year accounts.
Anna Warchus will look after press releases etc.
Without you Oriel Q Gallery cannot operate.
We are sending out a questionnaire to all members to seek your views on how best to run the Gallery and whether you would be interested in being part of a larger steering committee.
